Obituary of Willie Ray “Bill” Patterson, 2002:

Willie Ray “Bill” Patterson, age 65, a resident of Oliver Springs, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2002 at his home.

Mr. Patterson was born March 3, 1937 in Devonia.

He lived in Devonia until 1976 when he moved to Oliver Springs. He was employed by several area coal mines before retirement. He was a member of the Indian Creek Baptist Church, however, he attended the Elverton Baptist Church.

Mr. Patterson was preceded in death by: his parents, Byrd Patterson and Martha Cook Patterson; brother, Gene Patterson.

Survivors: wife, Martha Duncan Patterson of Oliver Springs; sons, Chris Patterson of Oliver Springs; Joseph Patterson of Oliver Springs; brother, James Patterson of Oliver Springs; half brother, Archie Patterson of Coalfield; sisters, Margie Johnson of Oak Ridge; Dorothy Patterson of Oak Ridge.

The family received friends from 6-9 pm Monday, April 22, 2002 at Sharp Funeral Home, Oliver Springs. Funeral services were held at 1 pm Tuesday, April 23, 2002 at the Indian Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Lee Phillips and the Rev. Roger Buck officiating. Burial followed at the Indian Creek Cemetery.

Sharp Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
