Obituary – Vowell, William Henry, 1970

Clinton Courier-News, March 26, 1970, Section 1, page 6:

W. H. Vowell, retired miner, rites are held.  Retired miner William Henry Vowell, 66, died at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Lake City Hospital after two days’ illness.  He made his home with one of his daughters, Mrs. Paul Pruett, Stephens Rd. at Lake City Rt. 1.

Vowell, born in Bricville, was a miner there until he retired several years ago.  He worked in several states after his wife died nine years ago, last as a hospital custodian in California.  He returned to the area nearly a year ago.

Vowell was a member of the First Baptist Church in Briceville.

Services were at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Martin Funeral Home chapel in Lake City with the Rev. Charles Noss officiating.  Burial was in Indian Creek Cemetery near Jacksboro.

He leaves two daughters, Mrs. Mary Lou Pruett of Lake City and Mrs. Della Mae Daugherty of Detroit; two sons, Harry Edward of Washington, D.C. and Billy Ray of Lakewood, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Cora Mathis of Harriman and Mrs. Carrie Allen of Torrance, Calif.; 10 grandchildren.
