Obituary – Daugherty, Roxye Ellen Yarnell, 1976

Octogenarian of Claxton dies Saturday.  Mrs. Roxye Ellen Yarnell Daugherty, an Anderson County octogenarian and member of one of the county’s best-known families, died Saturday night at Knoxville Recovery Center.

Mrs. Daugherty, 87, had been a patient at the Center for four weeks and had been hospitalized since sustaining a broken hip in a fall Nov. 26.

The daughter of the late James Thomas Yarnell, she was born in the Heiskell area of Knox County, but was reared and resident most of her life in Anderson County.  She had made her home on Raccoon Valley Rd in Claxton for the past several years.

Mrs. Daugherty taught school for about four years before her marriage in 1912.  Her husband, Fisher Daugherty, died shortly before their 60th wedding anniversary in 1972.

Mrs. Daugherty was a member of Bell’s Campground Baptist Church in Knox County.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Opal Disney, with whom she resided in Claxton, and Miss Orel Daugherty of St. Clair Shores, Mich.; a son, Thomas E. Daugherty of Powell; one grandson, Kenneth Disney, of Maryville; a great-granddaughter; two sisters, Mrs. Lora Jennings of Clinton and Mrs. Mamie Watson of Knoxville; and a brother, Willard Yarnell of Dayton, Ohio.

Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Glen Gamble and the Rev. John Rafecq, were held Tuesday in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home, Clinton.  Burial was in Zion Cemetery, Claxton.
