Obituary of Otis Patty, Sr., 2002:

Otis Patty Sr., age 84, of Clinton, passed away Sunday, March 10, 2002 at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge.

He was born July 15, 1917 in Braxton County, WV.

He was a deacon of Victory Baptist Church. He was a retired coal miner. He was a United States Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Alpha Lodge #376 of Clinton, Odd Fellows Lodge #54 of Coalfield, 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason.

Preceded in death by : parents, James William and Minnie Patty; son, James Edward Patty; daughters, Billie Joyce Patty Carpenter Messamore; sisters, Helen Patty, Margie Patty, Wilda Virginia Kimte; brother, Robert Patty; grandson, David Ford Carpenter.

Survivors; wife, Nancy Jane Phillips Patty of Clinton; daughter, Mary Etta Scarbrough and husband, Dealius of Claxton; son, Otis Patty Jr., and wife Wanda of Caryville; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Harold Webb and wife Betty of MA; Darrell Webb and wife Alice of OH; sisters, Edna Trunk and husband Carl of FL; Margaret McClain and husband Clyde of WV; Jennie Helmech and husband Bob of WV.

Visitation was 7-9 pm Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at Cox-Martin Funeral Home. A Masonic service was held at 8:30 pm by the Alpha Lodge #376 of Clinton.

Funeral service is 2 pm Wednesday, March 13, 2002 in the Cox-Martin Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Danny Phillips and the Rev. Johnny Randolph officiating.

Interment will follow the funeral service at Long Jim Cemetery, New River. Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

Cox-Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
