Obituary – Melton, Matt, 1970

Clinton Courier-News, March 26, 1970, Section 1, page 6:

Melton, 81, dies after long illness.  Born and raised at Andersonville, Matt Melton, 81, of Lake City Highway, Clinton Rt.2, died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Lake City Hospital.  He had been sick for several years.

Melton had worked at coal mining and timber cutting during his life but was a farmer before he became ill.  He had been a member of the Clinch River Baptist Church for 35 years.

He leaves his wife, Mrs. Alice Stooksbury Melton; four sons, Isaac of Caryville, Homer of Louisville, Ky., Robert of Clinton and J. T. of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; five daughters, Mrs. Edith Webb of Powell, Mrs. Mageline Wilson of Florida, Mrs. Louise Webb of Clinton, Mrs. Hattie Cox of Heiskell and Mrs. Mary Ruth Rhea of Lake City; a sister, Mrs. Katherine of Kokomo, Ind.; 45 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
