Obituary of Buster Phillips, 1971:

Buster Phillips dies suddenly at his home.  Buster Phillips, 44, the father of nine children, died unexpectedly early Wednesday morning at his home on Yarnell Rd., Clinton Rt.4.  The South Clinton resident was on the job Tuesday with Gilliam Excavating Co.

Phillips worked on Tuesday and had not been ill.  The cause of his death had not been determined.  He was dead on arrival at Oak Ridge Hospital at 5:20 a.m.  and physicians estimated he had died about two hours earlier.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Martin Home Funeral Home chapel, the Rev. Jimmy Riner officiating.  Burial will be in Pleasant View Church cemetery.

He leaves his wife, Maggie Steadman Phillips; five sons, Buster, Lynn, Charles Lee, Robert, David and Gary; four daughters, Mary Ann, Vickie, Karen and Linda, all of Clinton; one brother, Elmer Phillips of Clinton; a sister, Mrs. Chloe Spencer of Detroit; a half-brother, Jimmy Whaley of Knoxville; two half-sisters, Mrs. Sephie Edmonds of Clinton; Mrs. Norma Warren of Knoxville; and step-father, George Whaley of Clinton.
