Obituary of Ruth Rice Irwin, 1996:

Ruth Rice Irwin, 86, of Glen Alpine Community died 9:30 pm Monday, March 4.

She was a member of Andersonville Methodist Church, a resident of Knox, Union and Anderson counties and a descendent of some of the region’s oldest pioneer families.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn G. Irwin, and her parents, Marcellus Moss Rice and Ibbie Jane Weaver Rice.

Survivors are sons, David R. Irwin and wife, Carolyn Irwin, John Rice Irwin and wife Elizabeth Irwin, all of Glen Alpine community; grandchildren, Karen I Erickson, Elaine I Meyer and husband, Ed Meyer, Ann I Buhl and husband, Joe Buhl, and Rob Irwin and wife Sharon Irwin; great-grandchildren, Lindsey, John and Will Meyer; sister, Ruby Rice Little and husband Dr. Elbert L Little, of Arlington, Va.; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Morrell Irwin and Mrs. Roger Irwin of Andersonville; many cousins and special friends, Judy Alley Goins and Charline Seiber.

Family received friends 7-8:30 pm Wednesday, March 6, in Holley Gamble Funeral Home, Clinton. An 8:30 pm service followed with the Rev. George Buchanan and Rev. Kenneth Abbott officiating. Interment will be 10:30 am Thursday, march 7, in Norris Memorial Gardens.
