Obituary of John Davis, 1979:

John Davis, ex-railroad worker, dies.  John Davis, 81, of State Highway 116, Fraterville community, Lake City Rt.2 , died at 9:45 a.m. Saturday at his home of a stroke.

He was a retired employee of Tennessee Central Railroad in the New River area.  Davis was a member of the Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

A native of New River, he was the son of the late Jim and Emily Phillips Davis.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Angeline Carroll Davis; seven sons, Ransome, Bennie Lee, Billy, Johnny and Terry Davis of Lake City, Charles Davis of Whiting, Ind. and James Edward Davis of Clinton; eight daughters, Mrs. James (Laura) Barnwell of Chattanooga, Mrs. Louise Nance of Signal Mountain, Mrs. Charlie (Emma) Norris and Mrs. Lottie McGhee of Clinton, Mrs. Frank (Nancy) Higdon of Hixson, Mrs. Jimmy (Vina) Harness and Shirley F. Davis of Lake City Rt. 2 and Berda M. Davis of Germany; two brothers, Charles and Ransome J. Davis of Caryville; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Jane Dagley and Mrs. Minda Reed of Clinton; 29 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Beech Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Bill Thomas and the Rev. Lonnie Dison officiating.  Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery.
