Obituary of Gordon O’Neal Champion, 1978:

Resident of Claxton 30 years dies.  Gordon O’Neal Champion, 64, of Shipe Rd., Claxton, died at 9 p.m. Sunday at Sylvia’s Package Store in South Clinton, which his wife operates, of a heart attack.

He was employed at Reeder Chevrolet Co. in Oak Ridge for 27 years before he retired four years ago.  Champion was a member of Edgemoor Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and a Claxton resident since 1948.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Sylvia Champion, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Martin Funeral Home chapel in Oak Ridge with the Rev. Leonard Rhyne officiating.  Burial was in Tennessee Valley Memory Gardens.
