Duties of Regional Coordinators


       Each RC has been assigned a specific set of counties as their Area of Responsibility. In general terms, the RCs have two (2) duties in regard to these counties:

1. Assisting the County Coordinator(s) as needed, and ...
2. Verifying that the County pages conform to certain standards as established by the USGenWeb Project and TNGenWeb Project.
To Wit:
1. Assisting the County Coordinator(s) as needed.
    a. Some CCs, especially newer ones, may not be skilled in HTML and/or FTP, or think that Frontpage or Word will produce acceptable code.
    b. Some CCs may not realize that some HTML tags are proprietary, and will not display properly in all browsers. Pages should always be checked in both Netscape and IE for compatibility.
    c. If the RC uses some bits of code (JavaScript, CSS, SSI, or PHP) that might be helpful, they could share that with their CCs.
    d. NOTE: some CCs are quite proficient in the above, and will not need help from the RC.
2. Verifying that the County pages conform to certain standards as established by the USGenWeb Project and TNGenWeb Project. Each County in the Area of Responsibility should be visited at least once each month to verify the ...

    H.)   Hosting Servers’ Logos:
    County websites on the TNGenWeb Project domain (USGenNet server) must have a linked USGenNet logo. It is acceptable to place the logo at the bottom of the County home page (footer). The logo may be placed at the top or bottom of any page within the county website at the CC’s option.

    This is best accomplished by using a SSI scripts, i.e.,

    As a courtesy, placement of a non-required RootsWeb logo is acceptable on RootsWeb hosted pages.

    I.)    All page links and image links should to be working.

    J.)    No advertising for commercial services or products is allowed, except:
      a.)    ISP popups (Tripod, AOL, etc.)
      b.)    Document copying
      c.)    Local Genealogical Society materials

    NOTE: links to relevant commercial products/services are acceptable.

    USGenNet’s Non-Commercial Policy:
      “No commercial activities are permitted on USGenNet’s Server, however USGenNet will allow historical and genealogical societies to offer their publications on their USGenNet hosted website.”

      USGenNet, Inc. encourages full cooperation between the traditional local Historical and Genealogical Societies and the nonprofit and not-for-profit groups hosted on USGenNet. Therefore, publishing price lists of HistGenSocs is acceptible.

      Links and their assorted images to “Partners” or “Partnership” websites are not acceptible on the USGenNet server.

    RootsWeb’s Non-Commercial Policy
      “Upload no commercial material. The no commercial material rule is flexible, especially in the case of genealogical materials. You may go ahead and sell memberships, books, and research services within the guidelines of the affiliated project.

    K.)    GEDCOMs:
    GEDCOMs or other pedigree-related material are not allowed on TNGenWeb or RootsWeb accounts. (RootsWeb provides the WorldConnect Project for those type materials.

    L.)    Applications (programs):
    Applications may not be uploaded to the USGenNet server (TNGenWeb.org domain).

    M.)    Abandoned County Sites:
    When a county website appears abandoned, an attempt should be made to reach the CC by e-mail and telephone. If there no e-mail response within seven days, then a 2nd e-mail should be sent and there is still response within the second seven days, and the CC can not be reach by telephone, then the website may be declared abandoned. (
