Some 1836 Captains’ Militia Companies as
Identified in
Record Group 158

The muster rolls from the Seminole War of 1836 consist of the rolls of the First
and Second Regiments of Volunteer Mounted Gunmen (under Colonels Alexander B.
Bradford and William Trousdale). There are also muster rolls for a regiment of Mounted
Militia and a regiment of Mounted Infantry. All of these units appear to be troops from
West Tennessee (now Middle Tennessee). Consult the name index of Tennesseans in the
Seminole War (1836) on Mf. 867 or the card file index located in the microfilm room to
identify the company that a particular soldier belonged.
