BROWN (JACOB - Wagonmaker) CEMETERY
This cemetery is located on the Jacob Brown farm near the Southern Railway tracks and John Howze Road, Telford, Tennessee.
Note: There are two Jacob Brown Cemeteries.GPS Location: Approximately 82.52824N 26.25395 W1
There was not trace of the cemetery in 1978. Several years ago, Charles M. Bennett was able to copy some information from broken stones piled against a fence, and combined with research of documents and information from descendants, was able to conclude that the following were probably some of those buried here.
Jacob Brown, Wagonmaker, a German, born ca 1720-30, died between Fall 1807 and April 1, 1808. [Note: See death date below. BJH] He came to Washington County from Rowan Co. NC ca 1795-96.
The following children:
Jacob Brown, II, 1752 to May 10, 1841, Rev. War, NC. His first wife, Elizabeth Artmire, died ca 1814. His 2nd wife was Mary "Polly" Salts, a widow with a daughter Mary.
Margaret who married Conrad Starnes
Conrad, ca 1760 to ca 1840-50. Married (1) Patience Penny and (2) Elizabeth Ball.
- Abraham Brown, ca 1760-65 to ca 1835-40 and his wife, Catherine Brunomer.
- Their son, Stephen, ca 1796 to ca 1853 and his wife, Elizabeth Tucker, ca 1797 to ca 1859. They were married March 11, 1811. Their daughter, Esther Mahala, ca 1816to ca 1857 and their son, Stephen D., ca 1832 to ca 1853, are also buried here.
Miss Monnie Brown, whose mother was also a Brown is a descendant of Jacob. This farm was her home place. She gave the following list of names of people she knew to be buried there; however, she could not remember the dates. She is now in her middle 90's [1978]. Her father, James Madison and mother Alice, were moved to Monte Vista Cemetery, where her sisters, Mary and Nora, who both died in 1972, were buried.
- Her grandfather, Abram or Abraham Brown and his wife, Sarah
- Alfred Brown, his wife Rachel and their daughters, Margaret and Ellen
- Catherine Phillips and her husband
- Victoria Brown
- Her grandfather, Fletcher or Stephen Brown
- Mahalia Brown 2
The following information about the Brown family was found on the Braun/Brown website 3:
"After arriving in Rowan County, the family began spelling their name "Brown.
Jacob was a wagonmaker, and performed patriotic service during the American Revolution by making and repairing wagons. He married in Lancaster Co. Pennsylvania, Elizabeth Goettgen. They were the parents of at least eleven children:
In 1796, Jacob moved from Rowan County, North Carolina to Washington County, Tennessee. Three of his sons, George, Jacob, Jr., and Abraham had settled in Washington County several years earlier. Jacob purchased 235 acres of land on a branch of Little Limestone Creek from John Rimeal 17 July 1796. Later that year, he sold portions of this farm to his sons, Jacob, Jr. and David. As years passed the small stream that flows from east to west through the farm became know as the Brown Branch. This farm remained in the Brown family for nearly 150 years, with the last Brown owner selling out in the 1940s; it is presently owned by John W. Howze of Telford. [John W. Howze is now deceased 2009. BJH] An old log cabin that was located on this farm was believed to have been Jacob's home; in January 1987, the cabin was dismantled by two descendants, James C. and James T. Dykes, and stored for future restoration.
Jacob died in November 1807, Washington County and was buried in the family cemetery on his farm. As was the custom at that time, his grave was marked with a hand-lettered piece of limestone with the inscription: 'Jacob Brown N 1807.' As time passed, the cemetery fell into disuse and the gravestones were broken and scattered. Jacob Brown's gravestone was "rediscovered" in 1987 by James T. Dykes, Nell Fox, and Bill Fox and was removed from the farm, with the owner's permission, for safekeeping."

Located at 2648 Cherokee Road, Johnson City, TN. It is overgrown, so it was hard to determine how many graves are present, but there was only one readable stone. According to the WCCL: "This cemetery was established about the time of the Civil War by Daniel Brummit. There are 4 graves. Daniel Brummit and his wife are buried there."
Additional Information: Daniel Brummit was a son of David Brummit (1790-1834) and Anna N. Moreland Brummit (1821-1880) and the grandson of Samuel & Margaret Ann Brummit who came to Washington County, TN in 1790.
