His name is initials only, they don't stand for anything.  He enlisted in the U.S. Navy when he was 17, in March 1945.  He remained in the Navy until 1971.  He was born and raised in Gobey, Tennessee and was the only son of Luther and Nannie (Douglas) Norman.  Luther worked for the Emory River Lumber Company.
