Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church is located on Sunk Lake Road in Henning, TN 38041. Sunk Lake Road is off Hwy 87 and the church is located at the beginning of the road on the right. The cemetery is located on the property behind the church, however, you cannot access the cemetery from behind the church, you have to access it from Lightfoot Luckett Road. To get to the cemetery, you turn beside Woodard's Store off Hwy 87 and on your left not too far after the turn is the cemetery. It does not have a sign. The back of the church property on the other road backs up to the back side of the cemetery. This property has two cemeteries. When I first walked the cemetery, I wondered why there where graves inside the chain link fence and graves outside of the chain link fence. Pilgrim Rest Cemetery is inside the chain link fence and outside outside of the chain link fence is St. James Baptist Church's second cemetery. St. James Baptist Church, located on Hwy 87, has a cemetery around the church but apparently they ran out of room so they began a second cemetery up the road on the same property as the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. The Pilgrim Rest Cemetery was walked in the 1980's by an unknown source and a list of that walking is filed in the Lauderdale County Library. I have included information from those notes. When (no stone) is in the "Relationship / Notes" column, then most of the information was obtained from the Library information. The words/phases enclosed in double-quotes in the "Relationship / Notes" column are written on the tombstones. Census information that I found is added in the "Relationship / Notes" column, with some dates and other information that I found. All information is subject to correction. |
