E.D. Floyd Journal
(School teacher list and Church membership roll)
The following primary source material and bracketed comments were kindly provided by Robert L. Roberson (patrob@centex.net) on August 9, 2000.[I have just received a small trunk which belonged to my GGrandmother Mary Elizabeth Dodds Roberson Floyd (1847-1943). In this trunk are several small notebooks of E. D. Floyd (1839-1908) which may have some information of value to researchers of Henderson County. On pages marked with the year "1883", are the following notes: ] School teachers of District No. 5: William Rhodes at Jack Creek Church. Contract per month $25.00 commenced on the 7 day of July. G. A. Arnold Big Springs Commenced 16 day of July, contract at per month $30.00 D. M. Arnold at Rhodes School house Commenced at 16 day of July, contract per month $30.00 A. L. Dodds Mount Gilead School Commenced 16 day of July Contract $15.00 per month B. C. Parrish Middlefork Church Commenced 7 day of July Contract at $20.00 per month. [I have no idea if/why Mr Floyd would have recorded this information, or whether he was involved with the education program. In another location of the same book is an undated notice: ] Saturday 7 The County Superintendent wants all of the Teachers and Directors to meet at Lexington. [Mr. Floyd may have been a merchant, as there are several lists which appear to be accounts. In addition I believe the following list is a church roll: ] Male members T.G. Crook W. H. Wilson W. B. Crook Grange Hale [or Hall][marked through and labeled expelled] Stephen Griffin E. D. Floyd B P Arendal Carrol Beavers James A. Mitchell Wm T Glenn Wm G. Priddy E T Pollard Robert Beavers W W Arendall T P Arendall Female members S E Crook H A Mitchell M E Dodds M M Seymore Jane Beavers Adline Parish Martha R. If I am correct, this would date the above list as between 1873, when the Floyds were married, and 1884 when they moved to Comanche County, TX. I am trying to find information about my GGrandfather William Richard Roberson, who was a resident of Henderson County at least from 1868 when he married, until his death in 1871. William Richard Roberson is buried in the Crook family area of the Unity Baptist Cemetary of Henderson County, as are Thomas M Dodds and Mary E. Crook Dodds, parents of Mary E. Dodds Roberson Floyd.]
