MARRIAGE INFORMATION IS TAKEN FROM E. TN MARRIAGES BY SISTLER.
IN THE LEFT HAND COLUMN I HAVE ANNOTATED THE PAGE AND HOUSEHOLD IN WHICH A PERSON APPEARED
IN THE PRIOR, 1860 CENSUS.  COMMENTS ANNOTATED IN 1860 MAY NOT NECESSARILY BE REPEATED HERE.

MANY CHANGES IN THE POPULATION OCCURRED BETWEEN 1860 AND 1870.  THE CIVIL WAR YEARS HAD A SIGNIFICANT
IMPACT ON GREENE COUNTY.   THIS IMPACT IS SEEN BY THE NUMEROUS WIDOWS AND ORPHANS IN THE
1870 CENSUS.  FREED SLAVES ARE NOW ALSO ENUMERATED.  AFTER THE CIVIL WAR, MANY OF THE EARLIER RESIDENTS
HAVE LEFT; AND CONVERSELY, MANY NEW PEOPLE HAVE MOVED IN.

I APOLIGIZE IN ADVANCE FOR ANY MISTAKES IN JUDGEMENT OR ASSUMPTIONS THAT MAY APPEAR BELOW.
THIS EXTRACT IS TAKEN FROM A TRANSCRIPTION OF THE 1870 CENSUS, WHICH MAY OR MAY NOT BE COMPLETE.
